Volta Trucks’ UK opens first ‘Truck as a Service Hub’ in LondonLast month, Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, officially opened Volta Trucks’s ‘Truck as a Service Hub’ in Tottenham, London. The facility is the first of its kind to open in the UK and is designed to be the main destination for routine servicing and maintenance of vehicles in the London area.

The Hub, which will provide everything a fleet operator needs to support their seamless transition to electric trucks, also hosts administration offices, a Volta Trucks Academy Training centre, and a customer call centre that will provide 24/7 assistance and technical support. Together with engineering, software and development facilities in the Midlands, and the company’s Reading-based commercial operations, the opening of the London Hub brings Volta Trucks’ own UK organisation to over 600 employees.

Expressing his support for Volta Trucks’ commitment to sustainability and accelerating the industry’s transition towards electrification, Mr Khan said: “Zero-emission freight is an area that has been considered a significant barrier in the shift to decarbonising road transport. That is why I am delighted to support Volta Trucks, which has recently launched the London trial of its first fully electric heavy goods vehicle (HGV) — the new Volta Zero.

“As more EVs come onto our roads, it is vital that London has the infrastructure to support them. TfL will be releasing another two batches of sites to the market to deliver public rapid and ultra-rapid charge points across its road network. These sites will play a huge part in supporting high-mileage, essential road users such as commercial vehicles and businesses and will help us work towards building a greener and more prosperous London for everyone.

“However, while London is leading the way, we need to see more action nationally to pick up the pace regarding delivering electric vehicle infrastructure. When it comes to making the transition to cleaner vehicles and delivering the benefits of cleaner air, this must be considered an urgent national mission.”

Casper Norden, Volta Trucks’ chief fleet solutions officer, concluded: “The opening of our Truck as a Service Hub in Tottenham is an exciting milestone for Volta Trucks towards our vision of zero-tailpipe-emission cities. By establishing a strong presence in London and other major European cities, we aim to revolutionise the way that goods are delivered and transported in cities, accelerating the adoption of electric commercial vehicles, and paving the way for a cleaner and greener future.”
