Volkswagen brand increases deliveries in 2023The www.volkswagen.co.uk Volkswagen brand significantly increased its deliveries last year, with around 4.87 million vehicles handed over to customers worldwide. This represented an increase in deliveries of 6.7%, and the previous year’s numbers were exceeded in all regions. Demand for electric mobility also grew, with the car manufacturer handing over some 394,000 fully electric vehicles to customers worldwide in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 21.1% compared to the previous year.

Imelda Labbé, Volkswagen board member for sales, marketing and after sales, said: “The delivery figures show that we are on the right track as a brand and that our cars are well received by our customers. We expect the market environment to remain challenging in 2024, but with our revised and attractive product portfolio, we are in the right position.”

The largest markets for all-electric cars for the Volkswagen brand — in absolute figures — were China, Germany, the USA, the UK, Sweden, France, Norway, and Belgium. The SUV trend also continued in 2023, with the share of SUVs in total Volkswagen deliveries remaining very high at 54.2% (up 14.9% compared to 2022); in the USA, more than 81% of Volkswagen cars sold were SUVs. Moreover, to meet the high demand for SUVs, Volkswagen is planning to produce a fully electric SUV in the high-volume A-segment from 2026.

Another highlight for 2024 will be that 50 years after the first Golf, Volkswagen is presenting the next evolution of its eighth generation. Pre-sales are scheduled to start in spring 2024.
Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Group, which comprises 10 brands from five European countries (Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Škoda, SEAT, CUPRA, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche, and Ducati) increased its deliveries in 2023 by 12% to 9.24 million vehicles. All regions contributed to this growth, with Europe (+19.7%) and North America (+17.9%) being the main drivers. China, the Group’s largest single market, grew by 1.6% despite a challenging market environment.

Almost all brands recorded growth, in some cases substantial. SEAT/CUPRA achieved the highest increase in the passenger car segment with a rise of 34.6%, while MAN led the way in the truck segment with an increase of 37.1%. Furthermore, the Volkswagen Group delivered 771,100 fully electric vehicles, an increase of 34.7% compared to the previous year and taking the share of all-electric vehicles in deliveries to 8.3%, compared to 6.9% in 2022.
