Last month, the
McMurtry Automotive Spéirling PURE (Validation Prototype 1) fan car was presented to track-driving customers at the Hockenheimring F1 circuit over two days, at which there were both shared sessions (these involved other track-focused and race cars) and exclusive sessions so that guests ‘could experience the fan car’s performance without interruption’.
On the second day, former F1 driver Max Chilton, who is also the record holder at the
Goodwood Festival of Speed, achieved a lap time of 1min 24.43sec on the 2,842-mile F1 circuit — running at 75% power and 75% downforce, it. This lap time was 14.1sec faster than the exclusive track-focused Mercedes-AMG One hypercar achieved in 2022. Additionally, it was 3.907sec faster than the DTM qualifying time in 2020, making it the fastest closed wheel car ever around Hockenheimring (DTM — Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters — is a touring car series based in Germany).
The Spéirling PURE is a hyper-track car (available for order worldwide) that uses a downforce-on-demand system that provides downforce and grip right from a standing start. This system works alongside the 1,000bhp electric powertrain that offers selectable performance drive modes from GT3 to F1-level pace.
Thomas Yates, McMurtry Automotive’s managing director, said guests at the
Dörr Group Track Day were intrigued to learn about the story behind fan cars and the future for track drivers who own them, adding that achieving another record is a significant milestone for McMurty’s team and customers to be proud of.
