Xtrac in pole position for FIA Environmental AccreditationBerkshire-based Xtrac, a pioneer and innovator in developing highly efficient transmission systems for professional top-level motorsport and high-performance automotive applications, has successfully achieved two-star FIA Environmental Accreditation.

Xtrac’s chief executive, Adrian Moore, said: “We are delighted to receive this certification. It is a big step forward for us and a significant achievement for a Tier One motorsport supplier. It recognises our long-standing commitment to achieving ‘net zero’.”

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme is aimed at helping motorsport and mobility stakeholders worldwide to measure and enhance their environmental performance. Introducing clear and consistent environmental management into motorsport and mobility provides stakeholders with a three-level framework against which to accredit their activities.

Mr Moore added: “By participating in the FIA programme, we further understand our environmental issues and how to develop through continuous improvement processes, and it puts us in a great position to continue this work and achieve the ultimate three-star accreditation. Investment in achieving this type of accreditation to make us a better business goes hand-in-hand with our ongoing investment into the latest ‘state of the art’ manufacturing equipment and training programmes for our people.”

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme enables the industry to embrace environmental actions and improve its environmental performance. The audit assesses best practices in environmental management, including communication, training and consultation, energy use, water consumption, waste management, ground and water pollution, materials design and procurement, transport, biodiversity and heritage, noise pollution, air quality, and monitoring of carbon emissions.

Based on an initial evaluation, the FIA sustainability auditors discussed potential areas for improvement. Once this work was completed, using the FIA’s comprehensive self-assessment tool, Xtrac applied for an audit with supporting documents. With everything in order, it received confirmation of its two-star accreditation, a certificate and an audit report with additional recommendations. The certification is valid for two years.

Xtrac’s people and culture director, Kirsty Knight, said: “We aim to continue improving our environmental performance during this period. It was a massive team effort and very worthwhile. We want to thank Cristiana Pace, Bridget Haywood, and Adam Ellis at Enovation Consulting for their expertise in helping us achieve this milestone and all of the hard-working and skilled staff at Xtrac who made this possible.

“FIA accreditation enhances our credibility with our customers and stakeholders. It paves the way for us to achieve the three-star accreditation and the internationally recognised ISO:14001 environmental management system (EMS) certifications.”
