MTL Advanced, a leading contract manufacturing company that specialises in metal fabrication and precision engineering, has announced the completion of a new 67,000ft
2 factory adjacent to its existing 300,000ft
2 unit. This expansion represents a substantial £10 million investment towards the future growth of MTL, driven by the award of a long-term ongoing multi-million-pound contract in partnership with a key customer. The new facility is scheduled to begin production during December.
As part of this strategic investment, MTL has acquired a large-format LVD press brake, increasing its capacity to handle complex and heavy components, as well as two DN Solutions’ automatic pallet horizontal machining centres. These machines are equipped with automatic pallet changers to minimise downtime, boosting productivity and operational efficiency.
Additionally, it has installed seven Yaskawa robot welding centres. This advanced setup will allow MTL to maintain high production volumes while adhering to the highest quality standards. MTL has also installed a ‘state of the art’ fully automated welding line for high-volume and complex high-strength steel structures.
Significant milestoneAs part of the expansion, MTL is actively recruiting, with 100 new staff expected to join the business, including 24 apprentices who joined MTL in September, and 30 new staff scheduled to join the business before the end of this year. This will take its headcount past the 400 staff mark in 2025, of which over 10% will be apprentices — another significant milestone for MTL.
MTL says this new business has been won on the back of excellent quality, outstanding on-time delivery performance and a collaborative approach to customer service.
Coinciding with the launch of the new factory, MTL is introducing a new refreshed brand and new website, marking a new era for the company, and has been designed to reflect the company’s ‘forward-thinking approach and renewed focus on innovation, quality, and manufacturing excellence’.
