Industry urged to ‘Integrate to Innovate’ at TIMTOS 2025The 30th anniversary of TIMTOS (Taipei International Machine Tool Show), co-organised by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), kicked off today. The exhibition, widely recognised as a premier international exhibition for ‘smart’ manufacturing and machine tools, continues to be a global industry benchmark. It will run from 3 to 8 March 2025 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Halls 1 and 2 and Taipei World Trade Centre Hall 1 and has attracted over 1,000 exhibitors across 6,100 booths.

Under the theme ‘Integrate to Innovate’, TIMTOS 2025 is focusing on three key areas — ‘AI and robotics’, ‘smart manufacturing’, and ‘green sustainability’. The event leads global machine tool players in exploring vast business opportunities across five major application sectors: semiconductors; electric vehicles (EVs); medical; aerospace; and renewable energy.

To attract more international buyers to Taiwan this year, TAITRA mobilised its 62 overseas offices to extend invitations to companies worldwide, successfully drawing buyers from 87 countries with over 3,000 international visitors pre-registering. Delegations have arrived from Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and India. Top international brands include Italy’s aluminum extrusion and processing leader F.O.M. INDUSTRIE SRL, Germany’s century-old precision tool manufacturer EMUGE-Werk Richard Glimpel GmbH & Co. KG, and Canada’s manufacturing giant Thomas Skinner & Son Ltd. By the end of the week, the show is expected to have welcomed over 50,000 domestic and international visitors.

Leading manufacturers from Taiwan and abroad will be showcasing their innovations at TIMTOS. Among them will be Fair Friend Group, Tongtai, Victor Taichung, Hiwin, YCM, Chmer, You Ji, Siemens, Heidenhain, Fanuc, Mazak, and Mitsubishi. New exhibitors like Germany’s gear machining leader Liebherr and Italy’s forging machine manufacturer Mecolpress. National pavilions from Switzerland, Germany, and the USA, underscore TIMTOS’s status as a premier platform for product and technology showcases.

The opening ceremony welcomed distinguished guests, including Taiwanese president Lai Ching-te, Minister of Economic Affairs Kuo Jyh-huei, AIT director Raymond Greene, German Institute Taipei director Jörg Polster, and Swiss Trade Office Taipei director Danielle Tarnanidis, alongside TAITRA chairman James Huang and TAMI chairman David Chuang.

Strong technological capabilities

James Huang, chairman of TAITRA, opened the proceedings. He said AI and smart manufacturing are accelerating the transformation of Taiwan’s machinery industry. Looking ahead, the key to industrial progress lies not only in technology but in the next generation of AI talent. Amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and a rapidly evolving supply chain, Taiwan’s strong technological capabilities will position it as a critical player in global manufacturing. Huang urged Taiwan’s machinery industry to leverage AI advantages and lead the global machine tool sector into a new era of smart manufacturing, driving the next industrial revolution together.

TAMI chairman David Chuang highlighted the resilience of Taiwan’s machine tool sector despite economic uncertainties in 2024. He pointed out that Taiwan is leading the industry supply chain in adopting AI applications and advancing the transition to ‘net zero’ emissions, shifting the competition from price to value. Together, the industry is reaching a new milestone in its 30th edition, moving toward smart manufacturing and green manufacturing.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, this year’s TIMTOS offers a packed schedule of special events, including the TIMTOS Keynote and Forum, "ESG Action!" sustainability activities, ‘Dr Net Zero’ corporate carbon check ups, the Manufacturing Addiction Podcast, a green product competition, themed guided tours, a 30th anniversary celebration and beer festival, and a Taipei 101 light show. Furthermore, the Taiwan Patent GO Pavilion by the Intellectual Property Office debuts at TIMTOS, showcasing five award-winning patents and providing free patent consultation services throughout the show.
