Cloud platform to accelerate vehicle battery cell selectionConducting drive cycle tests on batteries to simulate real-world EV performance

Battery software innovator About:Energy has launched The Voltt, a standalone, cloud-based platform designed to transform how engineers select and simulate battery cells. Built on the company’s validated cell model library, The Voltt allows users to virtually test and compare cells under real-world conditions, without the need for complex modelling infrastructure.

The platform is aimed squarely at solving one of the most critical challenges in electrification: choosing the right cell at the earliest stage of development. With access to over 30 high-performance cell models, The Voltt enables engineers to make informed decisions faster, reducing the time, cost and risk traditionally associated with cell selection.

Dr Gavin White, co-founder and CEO of About:Energy, said: “The Voltt is about transforming the economics of battery programmes for decision-makers. In aviation, for example, every kilogram of battery weight affects range, safety and cost. By giving leaders the evidence to choose the right cell at the outset, we are empowering them to make decisions that unlock performance and commercial advantage without costly trial-and-error.”

Deep dataset

The Voltt draws on data from thousands of batteries and the equivalent of centuries of testing at About:Energy’s London laboratory. This deep dataset underpins every simulation, allowing engineers to predict performance under any duty cycle with confidence. Users can run custom drive cycles and mission profiles directly through the platform, turning complex data into actionable insights.

Lorenzo Bergamaschi, product lead for The Voltt, said: “Engineers are under huge pressure to
make high-stakes choices quickly, often without full system-level data because at early stages manufacturers may not yet have it available. The Voltt bridges that gap by giving them validated data and clear insight so they can evaluate options confidently and design better systems from the start.”

The platform has already been validated in the field through collaboration with Quantum Systems’ EFT drone battery division. It is publicly viewable here, with a 14-day free trial for users who sign up to access full functionality.
