Founded in May 1976, the company has become a specialist partner to OEMs, machine builders, systems integrators and equipment designers requiring dependable motion solutions for demanding applications.
Helen Doel, Mclennan’s managing director, said: “Reaching 50 years in business is an important milestone for Mclennan and a reflection of the trust our customers have placed in us across generations of automation innovation. Throughout that time, our focus has been on helping OEMs, machine builders and specialist equipment manufacturers solve real motion-control challenges with practical engineering support, dependable products and solutions tailored to the application. As automation continues to evolve, we remain committed to investing in the technologies, skills and partnerships that will help our customers build the next generation of high-performance machines.”
Over five decades, the company has developed its market position by combining component supply with in-house design, development and manufacturing capabilities. This approach enables Mclennan to move beyond catalogue distribution and support customers with application-led motion systems designed around performance, precision, footprint, duty cycle and cost.
For automation engineers, this provides access to both established products and the technical expertise required to integrate them into production equipment, laboratory automation, medical devices and specialist machinery.
Long-term relationships have been a hallmark of the business. Its first customer, Metham Engineering – now part of the Will-Burt Company – remains a customer nearly 50 years on. Supplier partnerships have also endured, including the supply of motors from the Impex range since 1976, continuing through Premotec and now under the Allient group. The company has also represented Portescap products for almost five decades, ensuring continuity of supply and technical support across successive generations of motion technology.
Mclennan’s portfolio spans stepper, servo and brushless motors, drives, controllers, gearboxes, encoders and bespoke mechatronic assemblies. Alongside product supply, it provides system design, integration, commissioning and ongoing support, helping customers reduce development risk, improve efficiency and shorten time to market.
The company attributes its longevity to strong engineering expertise, quality focus and consistent investment. Accredited to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015, Mclennan continues to invest in processes, skills and partnerships to meet evolving industry requirements while supporting both one-off developments and ongoing production programmes.
Looking ahead, Mclennan aims to expand its role in next-generation automation through further investment in advanced motion technologies and engineering capability. As manufacturing becomes increasingly connected and performance-driven, the company sees continued opportunity to support customers in delivering more precise, efficient and reliable machines.
