Anotec has appointed Mark Smith to the position of general manager. Effective from August 1, Mr Smith has assumed full responsibility for the leadership and operational performance of the company, which is part of the
Anochrome Group. He was previously production manager, operations manager and then assistant general manager at Anotec, and his promotion recognises his leadership, commitment to operational excellence and dedication to team development.
Steve Norman, group commercial director, said: “Mark has been an integral member of the leadership team for a number of years and has made a significant contribution to the continued development and performance of the business. This promotion recognises the improvements achieved at the Anochrome Technologies site, while his commitment to further education and continuous professional development reflects the culture of learning and improvement that we continue to encourage throughout the Group.”
Mr Smith joined Anotec, formerly Anochrome Technologies, in 2019, and has since completed an HND and is working towards a degree in Business Management with Northumbria University. He said: “I missed out as a young man on higher education, but Anochrome has allowed me to scratch an itch that has been with me for over 30 years. The degree has given me a different perspective on both my professional and personal life. I’m really enjoying it.”
He continued: “Professionally, I have developed more in the last five years than I did in the previous 15. The culture of support from the senior management team, coupled with the strategy of developing talent from within the business, is a model for motivation and success. Five years ago the business was very much automotive driven but we have made a conscious decision to diversify into new markets which has helped make us more robust. We have also invested in robotics, which has improved capacity and driven down lead times. As general manager I’m very much looking forward to building on the strong foundations already established and leading the business through its next phase of growth and development.”
Anotec uses manual, automatic and robotic techniques to produce high-quality spray coatings, hard anodising and aluminium passivation, thermal diffusion and electromagnetic compatibility coatings (EMC) for several industry sectors including automotive, industrial, aerospace, wind energy, rail, defence, nuclear, petrochemical and marine.
