Grantham-based engineering specialist,
BGB, has announced the official launch of its new Circularity Collection Service, marking four years since the company introduced its dedicated repairs and remanufacturing division.
Founded in 1976, the family-owned firm has transformed from a traditional component manufacturer into a pioneer of solutions for the global wind energy sector. Alongside working with major OEMs like Vestas and Siemens Gamesa, the new collection service is designed to support regional operations, maintenance providers and supply chain partners across the UK.
The new service provides customers with dedicated, on-site collection crates for decommissioned slip rings and associated brush technologies. Once filled, BGB collects the units, assesses them for repair, remanufacturing or recycling, and provides customers with a range of options — including a health check and feedback to maintenance teams, alongside an assessment on whether the product has been removed and replaced prematurely.
Enabling this level of support is BGB’s world-class, purpose-built testing facilities at its Grantham headquarters. Capable of simulating harsh operational environments including extreme temperature swings from -40°C to +60°C, high-current electrical loads and dynamic vibration the facility allows BGB to comprehensively diagnose, repair and validate slip rings and carbon brush assemblies to match OEM performance standards.
The roll-out comes as the renewable energy industry continues to experience a significant shift in attitudes toward refurbished components. Driven by supply chain pressures and a push to extend turbine operating lifespans from 20 to up to 40 years, demand for high-quality repairs over brand-new replacement parts has accelerated rapidly over the last four years. As a result, BGB has seen its own dedicated repairs and spares division surge into a burgeoning growth market over the last four years, expanding across the UK, Europe and North America.
Nick Hubbard, group director of products and services at BGB, said: “Four years ago, we set out to change the industry’s ‘make, use, dispose’ mindset by proving that a repaired part can match the reliability and performance of a brand new component. Over that time, we’ve built a very strong reputation around high-quality refurbishments backed by rigorous testing.”
He continued: “However, we were still seeing slip rings and carbon brushes routinely sent to the scrap simply because the value and possibilities are not understood. For us, circularity isn’t just a tick box exercise, it’s built directly into our strategy and operations, and our teams live and breathe it. By placing dedicated collection crates inside our client’s workshops, we’re removing the friction from asset recovery, helping operators cut landfill waste and turning end-of-life components into genuine financial and environmental value.”
News of its expanded service comes hot on the heels of BGB’s 50th anniversary celebrations, which saw it celebrate five decades of expertise across the wind, aerospace, wastewater and defence sectors.
