Precision tools for Thailand's growing machining industry

Precision tools for Thailand's growing machining industry From November 18 to 21, SIMTEK will exhibit at Metalex 2026 in Bangkok for the first time. At Booth AS34 in Hall 99, visitors can discuss their specific applications one-on-one with SIMTEK experts, explore the company's extensive tool range and learn how the German tool specialist can help them machine components more efficiently. SIMTEK's particular strength lies in small-part machining on lathes, where its tools offer a wide range of options for cost-effective production.

Jeremia Geiger, CEO of SIMTEK, said: "As Thailand continues to gain importance as one of Southeast Asia's leading automotive and industrial markets, we would like to further expand our presence there, forge new partnerships and introduce ourselves in person to Thai industry professionals. We hope that the trade show will give us deeper insight into the needs of the Thai market, allow us to establish sales and other partnerships and, above all, enable us to present solutions that help users optimise their manufacturing processes."

He added: "SIMTEK is known for its highly efficient carbide tools, particularly in small-part machining, and excels at solving challenging applications. With more than thirty years of experience, state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies and employees who work every day to ensure our customers' success, we have become one of the technology leaders in precision tools for
small-part machining."

One of SIMTEK's most successful product families is the simturn AX series, a single-edged boring bar for internal machining in bores with diameters from 0.3mm. Mr Geiger said: "Since SIMTEK was founded in 1994, we have continuously developed simturn AX in line with current requirements and the latest technological advancements. Today, it is the flagship of the SIMTEK portfolio and is regarded by many users in micro-machining as the benchmark for quality and design." SIMTEK sees strong potential for simturn AX in Thailand's precision component manufacturing, particularly in the automotive supply chain.

Tools with 3D-lasered chip-forming geometries, one of SIMTEK's latest innovations, will be a key focus at Metalex. SIMTEK first presented this technology to a broad audience in 2024. In this process, a laser applies high-precision circumferential cutting-edge geometries to ground carbide cutting tools. The result is a hybrid tool solution that combines the strengths of both processes and offers users a wide range of benefits. A key advantage is the increased process reliability achieved through optimised chip control.

Mr Geiger explained: "The increase in process reliability achieved with our lasered tools can be a decisive factor, especially in automated machining processes. In addition, lasered tools often offer an expanded range of functions, which can reduce process times or even eliminate the need for additional tools." With automation advancing rapidly in Thai manufacturing, Mr Geiger sees particular potential for lasered tools: "Wherever machines run unattended, reliable chip control becomes essential. That is exactly where our lasered tools can make a real difference."

High raw material costs remain a challenge for the industry, including in Thailand. Mr Geiger is therefore all the more pleased that SIMTEK can offer a modular milling system that comes close to
matching the performance of material-intensive monoblock tools. He said: "With simmill 9W, we offer a system that, thanks to its modular design, requires significantly less raw material yet comes very close to the performance of monoblock tools." The basis for this performance is an advanced toothing technology developed by sister company Kaestner-Tools. The ground toothing provides very high stability in high-speed applications, very high radial and axial runout accuracy and minimal wear at the toolholder/insert interface.

Since the launch of the system with the 12-edged simmill 9W4, which has a cutting diameter of 50.0mm and milling depths of up to 16.5mm, SIMTEK has developed further sizes. These now include, as standard, the simmill 9W1 with a cutting diameter of 28.0mm and a maximum milling depth of 9.3mm, and the simmill 9W5 with a cutting diameter of 63.0mm and milling depths of up to 21.0mm. According to SIMTEK, additional sizes are expected to follow.
