GTK is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of its manufacturing facility in Craiova, Romania, marking a decade of investment, development, and growth. GTK Romania was established on 6 June 2016, with the site completing its first customer delivery just four months later. Since then, the facility has become an important part of GTK’s global manufacturing operations, supporting the production of cable assemblies for customers across medical, transport, aerospace, and other specialist markets.
The Craiova facility originally occupied 430 M². Its manufacturing floorspace has since grown to 857.5m², supported by a further 48m² of office space, taking the site’s total footprint to more than twice its original size. The operation now employs 75 people across its warehouse, five production teams, and a dedicated inspection function, providing a combined manufacturing capacity of 1,700 production hours per week. A complete re-layout of the shop floor has also helped GTK Romania make better use of the expanded facility and support the continued development of its production operations.
Investment in the site has included automated manufacturing processes, crimping equipment and applicators, a 3D printer, and new fume extraction systems. These capabilities enable the team to manufacture a wide range of cable assemblies while maintaining the quality, consistency, and flexibility required by customers operating in demanding markets. Since its inception, GTK Romania has achieved independent certification to a range of internationally recognised approvals, including ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management, and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety. Its continued development was also recently recognised with Volex’s Best Kaizen Team Project award.
Scott Ford, managing director at GTK, said, “Over the past 10 years, GTK Romania has grown from a new manufacturing operation into an integral part of GTK’s global manufacturing footprint. The expansion of the facility, development of its capabilities, and growth of the team reflect the commitment and hard work of everyone involved. The Craiova team plays an important role in helping us provide customers with flexible, high-quality manufacturing solutions. I’d like to thank every colleague, past and present, who has contributed to the site’s success, and I look forward to seeing what the team achieves during its next decade.”
GTK Romania will continue to invest in its people, processes, and manufacturing capabilities as it builds on the foundations established during its first 10 years.
