Chiltern Railways has invested £5.3 million in its train fleet two years on from the launch of its Mainline service. The upgraded Bombardier Clubman trains, the first of which are now operating between Birmingham and London, have been designed to resemble the company’s existing silver inter-city trains.
Managing director Rob Brighouse said: “The upgrade to an entire fleet of our trains will create a comfortable and modern space on a par with our popular silver trains. What’s more, we’re proud that we have been able to do this without recourse to the tax-payer.” A rolling programme will see the entire fleet of Clubman trains upgraded by 2016.
Chiltern Railways is also about to start construction of a new rail route between Oxford and London Marylebone. This will be the first new rail link between two cities for 100 years.
