The new Samsung Machine Tools factory in Gimhae city, South Korea was officially opened earlier this month. Completed in August, it is twice the size of the old facility, offering 32,839m2 over four floors. The larger factory will not only allow the machine tool manufacturer to increase production of its current machine range, but also accommodate the design and manufacture of more high-end machines.
The company’s increased manufacturing capacity is projected to see an increase in annual sales, from $150 million at the start of the year to $300 million when the facility is fully up to speed; and with even more space available for expansion, Samsung says sales could rise to £500 million in the near future.
The new factory allows the company to do everything on-site, from research and development to the manufacture and distribution of its entire machine range. The factory opening saw dealers from around the world, including C Dugard Ltd
(www.dugard.com) from the UK. The latter’s managing director, Eric Dugard, said: “The new Samsung Machine Tools site is truly exceptional. With excellent facilities, a solid work ethic and outstanding products, Samsung is set to go from strength to strength. Moreover, the company has a host of machines ready to launch, including new multi-axis lathes and horizontal machining centres.”
