Ultra-thin NC rotary table from Kitagawa

Ultra-thin NC rotary table from KitagawaAt just 99mm deep, the body of the new Kitagawa CK160 rotary table has a smaller footprint than any other model on the market. The ultra-compact fourth axis is designed for mounting on the table of a BT30-taper machining centre. Moreover, the thin profile makes the NC table suitable for use with an opposing trunnion for securing and rotating a workpiece between centres — plus it can be orientated in the horizontal or vertical plane.

Available in the UK through Salisbury-based 1st Machine Tool Accessories Ltd (www.1mta.com), the CK160 is offered with a built-in rotary joint, in which case it is designated CKR160. Both versions are 99mm deep; a conventional table would typically measure half as much again from the face plate to the back. The rotary joint, which has seven ports for pneumatic and hydraulic supplies (but not coolant), allows the unit to operate on the C axis of a four-axis machining centre.

The unit’s specification includes: a 114mm-diameter table, 65mm through-hole (on the CK160), 140mm centre height, 340Nm pneumatic clamping and 41.6rev/min maximum speed. Indexing accuracy is 20arc-sec, with 4arc-sec repeatability. Workpieces up to 160kg can be supported with the table mounted horizontally; 80kg if it is vertical.

Meanwhile, the new Kitagawa RK200 NC rotary table indexes through 90deg in 0.31sec and achieves a maximum speed of 100rev/min. It also features a maintenance-free ‘roller-gear cam’ reducer, rather than gear sets; this improves positioning accuracy, load capacity and efficiency while reducing heat generation — even under continuous operation. The RK200 has a 114mm-diameter table with a centre height of 150mm, 70mm-diameter through-hole, 240 and 108Nm instantaneous and continuous holding torques respectively, and a maximum table load of 60kg.
