Pittsburgh-based H-D Advanced Manufacturing Co has bought Sungear Inc, which makes high-precision gears and assemblies for the aerospace industry.
Sungear is the fourth acquisition completed by H-D since it was formed in 2012, following Overton Chicago Gear Corporation, Innovative Mechanical Solutions (a manufacturer of custom bearings for the directional drilling motor industry) and Leading Edge Heat Treating Services Ltd.
Sungear — with headquarters in San Diego — is a manufacturer of complex precision gear components for many of the world’s leading aerospace suppliers. Its loose gearing and gear assembly products perform critical functions in engine starters, auxiliary power units and other applications. Its president, Roger Gizicki, will continue to run Sungear within H-D’s gearing division.
H-D CEO Chris DiSantis said: “The addition of Sungear’s expertise and reputation for quality plus some of the world’s largest aerospace customers advances H-D’s goal of becoming a leading global manufacturer of mission-critical products across a wide range of industries.”
