Compact five-axis turn-mill centre Starrag group company Bumotec will be launching the s181, a compact and cost-effective five-axis turn-mill centre that is targeted at the medical, surgical-instrument, watch-making and jewellery industries.

Available in the UK from Birmingham-based Starrag UK Ltd (www.starrag.com), this machine is derived from the s191 linear turn-mill centre, which features linear drive, a high level of thermal stability and machining accuracies of 2.5µm.

The compact s181 (it has a footprint of just 3.5m2) features a 30,000rev/min HSK 40 tool spindle, accommodates bar up to 32mm in diameter and has an ATC for up to 90 tools; and because it features a modular design, it can be equipped with a number of productivity-enhancing options.

These include a second workstation that effectively doubles productivity by allowing up to five driven tools to work on the rear side of one part while the main tool spindle works on another part. (Hall 1, Stand A12/B09)
