XYZ targets further European growth

XYZ targets further European growth Devon-based XYZ Machine Tools (www.xyzmachinetools.com) will be displaying a selection from its extensive range of mills, lathes, turning centres and machining centres at EMO 2019 (in Hall 27, Stand A10).

Taking centre stage will be the RMX 3500 mill and RLX 425 lathe, which both feature the latest version of the industry-leading ProtoTrak control with a host of new features, including a 15.6in touch-screen that puts all the machining information at users’ fingertips.

Combining the touch-screen with DXF capability eliminates the need to use a mouse when editing programs.

The screen also adds the familiar actions of pinch-to-zoom and twist-to-rotate, enabling closer inspection of the part program before machining.

The new control will be demonstrated live on the stand to highlight its ease of use and its time-saving benefits.

A third ProtoTrak-controlled machine — the XZ 2-OP — will also be on display.

This innovative vertical machining centre is designed to be portable, allowing it to be moved to any location in the factory, giving customers the opportunity to create manufacturing cells and free up valuable spindle time on more-costly machine tools.

The 2-OP has a footprint of just 775 x 1,380, and it can be moved using a conventional pallet truck.

The eight-station tool-changer is supported by a 3hp 6,000rev/min BT30 spindle, and the X/Y/Z axis travels are 355 x 305 x 455mm; the table size is 457 x 381mm.

From its turning and machining centre ranges, XYZ will exhibit the CT65 Compact Turn lathe and the 750 LR machining centre.

These machines are equipped with the Siemens 828D control, and the CT65 has the ShopTurn software activated as standard (ShopMill is an option on the 750 LR).

The ease of use of the conversational programming system on this Siemens control has made it a firm favourite among sub-contract machinists looking for efficient machine operation.

The CT65 features a 65mm bar capacity through the spindle and a capability to swing up to 400mm diameter, with a maximum turned diameter of 220mm and maximum turned length of 260mm.

Tools are held in a 12-position Sauter ‘German’ 30 VDI turret and power is provided by a 23HP/17kW, 4,500rev/min spindle.

The machine has a solid Meehanite ribbed cast base, combined with hardened and ground box slideways, for maximum rigidity and performance.

The LR range — complementing XYZ’s heavy-duty range of box slideway machines — uses the latest linear-rail technology for its axis travels, which maximises the improvements in digital motion technology.

The LR machines have the same solid cast construction as the heavy-duty HD machines.

The 750 LR is the mid-range machine, with X/Y/Z axis travels of 750 x 440 x 500mm and a table measuring 830 x 410mm.

Feed rates up to 20m/min are possible, supported by a BT40 18hp/13kW spindle. A 20-position carousel (arm-type option) provides a tool change time of 2.5sec.

XYZ Export sales director Howard Bamforth said: “EMO is a fantastic opportunity for XYZ Machine Tools to build on its already strong market presence in mainland Europe and expand the user base for machines with the new ProtoTrak control.

We are experiencing strong sales growth in Europe, helped by a very active and growing network of distributors.

EMO will also provide opportunities to further develop that network of distributors and expand our sales into more countries.”
