SEM celebrates 100 years and a new factorySEM (www.sem.co.uk) has celebrated 100 years of manufacturing high-performance electric motors by relocating to a more spacious purpose-built facility at The Bridge Technology Park near Dartford.

This will provide a ‘state of the art’ home for the production of the company’s current ranges of permanent-magnet servo-motors and asynchronous-spindle motors, plus the development of new technologies. Every part of the factory is climate-controlled to maintain a near-constant temperature and humidity.

Sales and marketing manager Steve Jackson says: “This move marks the start of an ambitious five-year plan that will see significant growth, with new products introduced that will match the changing face of our customers’ markets in the machine tool, general automation and renewable-energy sectors.

"Our aim is to provide the best product for our customers, with no compromise on quality, and the relocation will help to reinforce this philosophy.

“The new factory is the start of future-proofing our business; it has been designed with significant further expansion in mind.

“We have looked at every one of our manufacturing processes and have identified many opportunities to introduce new systems and new techniques that offer a mix of both commercial and technical advantages. With this significant investment, SEM is able to take production of its motors to a new level.”
