Walsall-based Riley Surface World (
www.rileysurfaceworld.co.uk) has been appointed by Fokker Aerostructures to handle the sale and de-commissioning of a German-built anodising, pre-treatment and non-destructive testing plant at its Rotterdam manufacturing facility — due to the impending upgrade of a larger anodising facility.
The Fokker name has been synonymous with aircraft manufacturing for over 100 years, with operations in the Netherlands, Romania, the USA and Mexico.
Its Netherlands division specialises in the design and production of lightweight structures, modules and landing gear for the aerospace industries.
The anodising plant that is for sale is a modern multi-stage and multi-process installation with an 8 x 1.2 x 2.7m work envelope.
It is suitable for medium to large aerospace, automotive, architectural or general-engineering components, such as aluminium extrusions. It has several in-line pre-treatment stages, including adye penetrant inspection system. The ancillary equipment includes rectifiers, drying ovens and fume-scrubbing plants.
The non-destructive testing facility includes stages for pre-treatment, surface conditioning and dye-penetrant inspection to detect cracks, surface porosity and other common faults (in compliance with all international safety directives).
The entire plant can be adapted to other electrolytic surface-finishing processes, and its advanced design lends itself to being reconfigured to comply with the latest REACH regulations. For instance future operators will be able to remove the potentially harmful Chrome 6 from the anodising process and replace it with a safer alternative.
