At the end of September, DMG Mori (
www.dmgmori.com) officially opened new facilities in Ulyanovsk.
Incorporating manufacturing facilities and a technology centre, the new factory of DMG Mori Ulyanovsk Machine Tools will focus on the needs of the local Russian market, offering the benefits of short delivery times, payment in roubles, low transport costs, no customs duties and local support.
The Ulyanovsk Machine Tools plant, which is said to be the most modern and efficient facility within the global DMG Mori network, comprises a building area of 21,000sq m and a production area of 3,300sq m — housed on a land area of some 330,000sq m.
The CTX ecoline CNC universal turning machines, DMU ecoline CNC universal milling machines and DMC V ecoline vertical machining centres are being produced at the plant (since 2014, these were being manufactured in a rented facility nearby).
DMG Mori sees the use of local suppliers as key to the success of this venture, which is already relying on local companies for the supply of sheet-metal components, castings, chip conveyors, electrical assemblies and components, as well as the supply of various other manufactured parts.
Meanwhile, DMG Mori confirms that it booked orders worth 106.9 million euros at the recent EMO 2015 in Milan. The company took 2,437sq m of stand space to exhibit 40 of its high-tech machines (including 10 world premieres).
Moreover, it attracted 13,433 visitors to its stand — 78% more than at the previous Milan EMO in 2009.
