The new SB25-TC floor-standing pillar drill from Axminster Tool Centre Ltd (
www.axminster.co.uk) is a more powerful
version of the company’s standard SB25 machine.
With a 25mm-diameter drilling capacity in steel, it is designed for large engineering and production tasks and can
be used for prolonged periods.
The machine features a heavy structure, and the headstock has been machined to precisely match the quill housing, virtually eliminating any lateral movement — even at full quill extension. Furthermore, because the column is ground, the table’s rise and fall are smooth, making height adjustment particularly easy.
Drive to the spindle is via a 1.5kW brushless DC motor, which features variable-speed control; this also gives a soft start and constant speed regardless of load. In addition, there is also a three-speed belt drive. Also featured are an electrically interlocked chuck guard, an LED lamp and a built-in coolant system (the nozzle is fitted to a strong magnetic base).
The table, which pivots through 360deg, has a flat surface with T-slots and coolant channel on one side and a 125mm vice on the other (this can be slid into position on dovetailed guides).
