A precision engineering firm based in the West Midlands has bought a Global co-ordinate measuring machine from Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence to boost its capabilities, as part of a £4 million investment programme.
A&M EDM (
www.amedm.co.uk) is using the CMM, which includes a Leitz analogue scanning probe, to help it reverse-engineer parts and scan intricate profiles, as well as perform multi-point standard measurement tasks.
Quality manager Kevin Powell said: “Not only was it the best value for money compared to similar competitor equipment, but it also offered the flexibility of multi-point measurement and scanning capabilities on a single high-accuracy machine.
“I cannot speak highly enough of the professionalism of Hexagon staff, from the initial enquiry right through to the commissioning of the machine.”
A&M EDM has also created a purpose-built temperature-controlled clean-room for its metrology operations after purchasing an additional 33,000sq ft facility at its site in Smethwick.
The investment programme means that the business can now tackle larger packages of work for customers typically involved in the aerospace, medical and high-performance engineering sectors.
