Counterblow hammers are ideally suited to the manufacture of ultra-large forgings, with their high impact energy ensuring precision forming. Schuler (
www.schulergroup.com) recently received an order from a Chinese company to supply such a machine with a working capacity of 800kJ; it will be the largest counterblow hammer that Schuler has ever delivered to China.
Once installed, the Bêché DG80h pneumatically driven counterblow hammer will be used to forge large crankshafts for truck, locomotive and ship engines. Schuler is the only company in the world to supply machines of this size. It has a total weight of around 650 tonnes and an above-ground height of more than 7m.
Schuler will complete production of the various parts and components in Germany by the middle of next year and subsequently assemble the line at the customer’s facility in China. The production launch is scheduled for early 2018.
