An engineering firm that supplied Tata Steel has gone into liquidation. Fairwood Fabrications (
fairwoodholdings.com), which was based in Port Talbot, closed last month with the loss of 250 jobs, after being in operation for more than 35 years.
The company was involved in the construction of steel buildings and other products, as well as providing pipework services to the steel industry in South Wales. Chairman Gherold Davies said the business had also been disappointed by the delay to the planned £1 billion tidal-lagoon project in Swansea, which would be “immense” for the steel industry in the area.
A spokesman for the Welsh Assembly Government said: “Fairwood approached us in June for £200,000. However, we felt unable to provide further financial support, given the information provided by the company.”
