Fire engine manufacturer wins £1 million dealYorkshire-based Rosenbauer UK (www.rosenbauer.co.uk) has won a contract worth £1 million from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) for two fire trucks, following a successful 12-month trial of its innovative AT-Stinger fire appliance.

Blackburn’s firefighters put a leased AT-Stinger to the test throughout 2017; it was also sent to Greater Manchester and North Yorkshire to assist with various incidents.

The leased engine will now be purchased, and a second unit will be delivered later this year.

The AT-Stinger concept was devised by Rosenbauer UK in 2015, in conjunction with LFRS. The goal was to set a new standard in aggressive firefighting capability, while maintaining the ability to react to smaller incidents.

LFRS has since released an official report attesting to the robustness, versatility and capability of the AT-Stinger, which can deliver 4,500 litres of water per min — over a distance of 85m, if required (a water delivery capacity greater than that of two standard fire trucks).

The AT-Stinger’s 16.5m boom features a spike that can penetrate a roof, wall or window before releasing 1,000 litres of water per min.

This device means that fires can be tackled effectively as soon as the appliance arrives at the scene.
