Coleg Cambria Engineering Technology Centre (
www.cambria.ac.uk) in North Wales has invested in a range of manual lathes, mills, drills and saws from Heckmondwike-based Colchester Machine Tool Solutions (
www.colchester.co.uk).
One of the UK’s largest colleges, with over 7,000 full-time and 20,000 part-time students, Coleg Cambria has made this investment to meet the training needs of construction and aerospace employers in the region.
Nick Lyon, assistant principal at the college’s Wrexham site, said: “When we developed the Engineering Technology Centre, we were really keen to ensure that the fundamental engineering aspects of machining were maintained.
"We’ve had a great relationship with Colchester Machine Tool Solutions (formerly 600 UK) over many years, and the equipment has always been of a high quality. Most importantly, my students enjoy using the machines.
“To meet industry standards, you have to have industry-standard equipment, and the Colchester and Clausing machines can give us that quality, accuracy and the fundamental basics of what students need in industry.
"Once they progress from manual machines, we also have three CNC lathes and three CNC mills, so learners are exposed to the complete machine shop environment.”
The recent order consisted of 14 Harrison M300 lathes, six Clausing 3VS milling machines, three Clausing pillar drills and a Clausing bandsaw.
The geared-headstock M300 lathe has a global reputation as the benchmark training lathe, with unrivalled standard build and safety features in a compact footprint.
