DPC invests in new CNC lathesOldham-based Dawson Precision Components (DPC) has invested £230,000 in new CNC lathes.

The company provides sub-contract and engineering services to world-wide customers in the aerospace, aviation, defence, energy, environmental, marine, medical, motor-sport and rail transport sectors.

Over £1 million has been spent expanding DPC’s workshops and premises in recent years by owners Simon Dawson, Paul Dawson and Julie Hughes.

The latest lathes — supplied by Citizen Machinery UK Ltd — are: a Miyano BNA 42 GTY fixed-head lathe with low-frequency vibration (LFV) for better swarf management; and a Citizen L20 TVIII sliding-head lathe, also with LFV (www.citizenmachinery.co.uk).

Paul Dawson said: “Citizen Machinery holds an Open Day every year, and we went to its base in Bushey to see the new Miyano machine running.

“It has replaced two older machines that we had and complements our other machining capabilities of 32 and 50mm diameters.

"The LFV technology turns waste shavings into chips that fall away rather than building up in long stringy coils. This means that some materials, such as certain plastics and aluminiums, can be cut much more efficiently.”

DPC received a good number of enquiries through participating in the Subcon 2018 show at the NEC.

The company took a newly designed exhibition stand to the NEC, reflecting its brand-new Web site (www.dpc.co.uk).
