ABP South Wales has invested £400,000 in a new engineering facility at the Port of Cardiff (

An expanded ‘state of the art’ 1,200m
2 workshop enables the engineering department to undertake the servicing and maintenance of equipment used by stevedores to load and unload vessels.
It includes new office space for the engineering operations, a new mess room for the stevedores and new amenities for the electrical and fabrication/welding engineers who service the port estate.
Matthew Kennerley, ABP South Wales director, said: “The work of our engineering department is vital in supporting the port’s operational teams and — ultimately — our customers.
“The investment is part of our commitment to continually improving the services we offer, while providing a great place to work for our dedicated employees.”
The ABP South Wales engineering team is responsible for maintaining and servicing all port equipment and infrastructure, from the cargo-handling machinery, lock gates and associated machinery,to the port’s outdoor lighting.
Construction work for the new facility began in January and was completed in October.
