Tamworth-based Alcon (
www.alcon.co.uk), a manufacturer of high-performance brake components for the motor-sport and performance-vehicle market, has secured a £3 million finance package from HSBC to invest in new machinery.
The company has used the funding to purchase five CNC machines, as well as a noise, vibration and harshness (NVH)
dynamometer.
The CNC machines will be used to manufacture brake calipers, master cylinders and pedal-box components to increase
capacity and support with product development.
They will enable the company to double its output of brake discs to 60,000 per year.
Meanwhile, the NVH dynamometer will allow Alcon’s research and development team to detect, measure and solve brake noise and vibration problems during product development.
With this cutting-edge technology, Alcon can test at varying speeds, temperatures and humidity levels to simulate real-life operating conditions.
These investments follow Alcon’s acquisition of US brake specialist Pro-system at the end of 2017, which was also supported by finance from HSBC UK.
That enabled Alcon to expand its presence in the USA and widen its product offering.
