LRV order for Hyundai RotemWarsaw Tramways has selected Hyundai Rotem (www.hyundai-rotem.co.kr/Eng) as the preferred bidder for a contract to supply up to 213 low-floor LRVs (light rail vehicles) for the tram network in the Polish capital.

The base order for 123 LRVs comprises 85 33m-long bi-directional vehicles, 18 33m-long uni-directional vehicles, and 24 24m-long uni-directional vehicles. The contract includes an option for 45 33m-long vehicles of each type.

Hyundai Rotem submitted a bid of 1.85 billion zlotys ($480 million). Warsaw Tramways says it rejected an offer from a consortium of Stadler Poland and Solaris because the proposed delivery timeline did not meet its requirements, while a bid from Pesa exceeded the budget for the order.

All vehicles in the base order must be delivered by October 2022. The procurement is being partially funded by the European Union.

Warsaw Tramways abandoned a previous tender for 213 trams in August 2017 after the winning bid — from Skoda Transportation — exceeded the operator’s budget. A revised tender was launched in September 2018.
