Airbond wins second Queen’s AwardPontypool-based Airbond, which specialises in fibre splicing and its applications, has won a second Queen’s Award (in the innovation category) for its latest patented splicing technology, which is said to deliver ‘game-changing’ improvements in operating costs for yarn processors in the textiles and composites sectors.

Airbond (www.airbondsplicer.com) has developed machines that — for the first time — can splice modern composite materials.

The company exports to 40 countries world-wide, with local support provided by its network of agents and distributors.

Managing director Graham Waters said: “Splicing is a mature technology that had stagnated for decades, but we have catapulted it into the 21st century.

“This Queen’s Award was a team effort, with every member of the company contributing to its success.

"I am proud to work with such a talented and creative group of people. It is also heartening that our hard work is being increasingly recognised by our customers, with more and more companies seeing what our splicer can achieve.”
