3-D printing aids design of Presthetic leg coversLIMB-Art, a UK design and manufacturing company, is using an HP Jet Fusion 3D 4200 3-D printer — in alliance with service bureau Design Reality — to produce “eye-catching prosthetic leg covers”.

Founded in 2018 by former Paralympic swimmer Mark Williams and his wife Rachael, LIMB-Art was born out of a desire to help other prosthetic users feel more confident about their appearance.

Mr Williams said: “Working with HP and Design Reality means that we can move away from traditional production methods — where we’d typically use injection moulding to produce one design at a time, limiting our customer base and the available styles — to uniquely printing any shape or pattern we want.

“HP Jet Fusion technology really sets us apart from the competition; it has enabled us to sell into the NHS and gain support from leading prosthetic manufacturers like Otto-Bock.”

LIMB-Art says that with the HP Jet Fusion 3D 4200, it can offer exceptional product quality — in terms of both durability and affordability.

Mr Williams added: “Our mission is to make prosthetic covers accessible for those who need them, with the business focusing on generating enough profit from sales of adult leg covers to be able to offer similar products to children in need of prosthetics for free.”
