Materials Processing Institute powers aheadA Middlesbrough-based steel and materials research and innovation centre has become a partner of the Northern Powerhouse.

The Materials Processing Institute (MPI) is globally recognised for the innovation, R&D and commercialisation of new materials, processes and technologies.

It will help to improve collaboration, infrastructure and investment across the North of England.

Chris McDonald, MPI chief executive (www.mpiuk.com), said: “Joining as a member of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership programme is testament to our excellent track record in working collaboratively with industrial partners for the greater good of the North and beyond.

"We pride ourselves on helping to promote the industrial capabilities of the Tees Valley and the wider Northern region through our work with companies throughout the world.”

The Minister for the Northern Powerhouse, Jake Berry, said: “I am delighted to welcome the MPI as the latest member of our Northern Powerhouse Partner Programme.

"Its work to enable UK industry to adapt to new technologies builds upon our £126 million of local growth investment in Middlesbrough, while supporting businesses to prepare for leaving the European Union on 31 October.”
