Quaser VMC helps BSC Filters meet 22% growth

Quaser VMC helps BSC Filters meet 22% growth York-based BSC Filters, which specialises in microwave filters, diplexers, wave-guide and coaxial passive components, has increased its machining capacity with the installation of a new Quaser MV134EH vertical machining centre.

Supplied by Engineering Technology Group (ETG — www.engtechgroup.com), this machine comes with a 12,000rev/min spindle, 30 tools, the latest swarf management technology and a Heidenhain control; it was chosen for its efficiency, compact footprint, rigidity and accuracy.

Machine shop supervisor Daniel Malarkey said: “Our business has grown 22% over the last 12 months, and this is largely due to the demand for more-complex components for the defence sector.

"We had to meet this demand head-on, and that is why we chose to engage with ETG to help us choose a new machine that would give us flexibility, speed and consistent quality.

We now have the additional capacity required to meet the increased demand and — importantly — go after more new business opportunities.”

ETG regional sales manager Lee Adamson said: “The Quaser is proving to be a popular machine with sub-contract manufacturers, and it is not difficult to see why.

“The compact footprint means that it can be easily fitted onto the shopfloor, and it offers outstanding performance — thanks in part to the high-precision linear guideway that is used in three axes.”

BSC Filters, which is part of the Dover Microwave Products Group, is expecting further growth in the coming months and is now looking to convert one of its older Quasers, so that it can deliver a four-axis capability.
