Chesterfield-based Dormer Pramet (
www.dormerpramet.com) has expanded its range of milling cutters for die and mould applications (and general machining) with several introductions — including the new double-sided SNGX11 insert for high-feed milling with depths of cut up to 1.7mm.
A strong main cutting edge ensures high levels of durability and process security (especially when machining corners inside a pocket); and with eight cutting edges, this square-shaped insert also offers an economical solution.
Suitable for copy milling, helical interpolation, ramping, progressive plunging and face milling, the SNGX11 is available in two geometries: M is for machining steel, but also hardened steel and cast iron, while MM provides a smoother cut and is more suitable for stainless steel, soft steel and super-alloys.
The range is supplemented by the new SSN11 cutter. Available in diameters from 32 to 125mm, with intermediate sizes for die and mould applications, all cutters feature a special through-coolant design (to further improve process security) and a high overhang to accommodate deep milling up to 10xD.
Meanwhile, Dormer Pramet has added to its ADMX07 milling programme with a new F geometry for finishing and semi-finishing applications.
This sits alongside the existing M, FA and HF geometries and targets the light machining of stainless steel and low-carbon steels, as well as vibration-sensitive applications.
The chip-breaker features a highly positive geometry with narrow peripheral land that is designed to reduce chatter and provide a smooth cutting action without burrs on a machined wall; it also ensures low cutting forces that not only reduce energy consumption but also prevents work hardening for longer tool life.
The ADMX range is based on a universal 90deg tool that accommodates a variety of milling applications.
