Horn Cutting Tools Ltd is continuing to expand its range of solid carbide cutters for circular interpolation milling. The DC circular milling system is intended for grooving, parting-off and threading operations and in contrast to indexable insert tools, has a solid carbide monoblock construction. One of the advantages of the design is high milling depth when grooving or machining small internal threads.
New is the use of RC25 and RC45 as the standard carbide grades, which are able to cope with a wide range of machining operations and materials. Furthermore, optimised macro geometries and micro-scale geometries of the cutting edges ensure even higher milling performance than before.
Additional variants include 35 extra types of DCN groove milling cutter, allowing customers to select a tool that is more closely tailored to their specific groove dimensions, materials and machining requirements. Included are intermediate tool sizes with diameters in odd-numbered increments of 5, 7, 9 and 11mm, which are offered as standard from stock. It gives users more flexibility of choice and less need for custom tools, which can be expensive and have extended delivery lead times. The cutters are available for machining grooves from 0.5mm wide.
