Lancashire-based GA Engineering (North West) Ltd has been awarded Fit for Nuclear (F4N) status.
The company achieved the certification from the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC) after a rigorous assessment of company principles, practices and procedures at its facility in Morecambe.
Part of the Dundee-based Pryme Group (
www.prymegroup.co.uk) , GA Engineering traditionally provided precision CNC machining for the oil and gas, aerospace and defence industries, but it entered the nuclear supply chain a decade ago.
The F4N initiative helps UK manufacturing companies to bid for work in the nuclear supply chain by allowing them to measure their operations against the required standards and take the necessary steps to address any gaps.
As an established sub-contract manufacturer of nuclear components, GA Engineering first enrolled in the programme in April 2016, aiming to introduce operational enhancements to improve its component-manufacturing processes.
After the recent re-assessment by Nuclear AMRC, it has Fit for Nuclear accreditation until 2023, which will give customers confidence in its expertise and capabilities.
John Friel, managing director, said: “It speaks volumes of our team that we have been awarded Fit for Nuclear status again, after our processes and working methodologies were closely scrutinised.
"We have always shown a strong commitment to the nuclear industry, and our continued work with our F4N industrial advisors to improve workflow, processes and output quality is a clear indication of that.”
