Unipart Logistics has won a three-year contract to service the new Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Battery Assembly Centre in the West Midlands, which will begin production this year, using new techniques and technologies to manufacture battery packs for JLR vehicles.
More than 100 Unipart employees will provide production logistics at the site in Hams Hall, which will supply electric-vehicle (EV) batteries to JLR’s Solihull and Castle Bromwich plants on a just-in-time basis.
Oxfordshire-based Unipart (
www.unipart.com) has a strong heritage in automotive logistics, delivering parts and after-market support for JLR and other customers (including Volkswagen), as well as handling production logistics for other premium-brand automotive customers.
In 2018, it announced a joint venture with Williams Advanced Engineering (called Hyperbat) to manufacture batteries for high-performance vehicles.
John Neill, Unipart CEO, said: “The future of the automotive industry is in EVs, and this contract sees Unipart playing a key role at the heart of JLR’s plans for electrification.
Unipart is uniquely placed to make a positive influence on the UK automotive industry’s electrification, which is set for huge growth.
"Hyperbat, our joint venture with Williams Advanced Engineering, is at the forefront of manufacturing batteries for high-performance EVs.
"Our lean practitioners are already working with automotive manufacturers looking to bring EV production into their supply chain successfully, and we can continue to bring added value through our expertise in both in-production and after-market logistics.”
