Damping technology offers vibration-free machining

Damping technology offers vibration-free machiningThe new Accure.tec vibration-damping technology from Bromsgrove-based Walter GB Ltd (www.walter-tools.com) has been designed to ensure vibration-free and low-noise cutting in difficult-to-machine turning and milling applications using long tools; these include tools for milling components with deep cavities, as widely found throughout all industry sectors, and turning applications in the energy sector (such as oil industry valves), as well as aerospace landing gear.

Pre-set by Walter and delivered ready for use, the axially and radially positioned damping element allows ‘turning/boring’ operations (up to 10-times diameter) with high process reliability and excellent surface finish, using — for example — A3000 boring bars to achieve H7 engineering tolerances and finishes of Rz 6.3 when counter-boring generator shafts. Furthermore, the new QuadFit quick-change heads enable rapid tool changes (to repeat accuracies of ±2µm).

When milling, Accure.tec AC001 adapters with lengths up to five-times diameter can be applied with cutting data up to three-times greater than with conventional tools. These adapters are particularly suited to Walter’s high-feed milling cutters, which produce their main cutting forces in the axial direction of the spindle.

Accure.tec AC001 and A3000 are supplied with all popular interfaces, including Walter Capto, HSK/HSK-T, SK, MAS-BT and parallel shank.
