Spanish ship manufacturer
Gondan Shipyard has placed an order for a PEMA VRWP-C compact robot welding solution supplied by Finland-based
Pemamek, a global company that designs and manufactures automated welding and production solutions. Located in Asturias, the shipyard has a 90-year history of producing sea-faring vessels.
César Mateo Oró, Gondan Shipyard production manager, said: “Gondan Shipyard can manufacture any type of boat, without ‘technological limits’, but has the flexibility to incorporate improvements during the building process to meet the needs of the shipowner and strict quality standards.”
Previously, the shipyard built boats using traditional steel manufacturing that focused on manual welding. With the new robotised welding solution, the company can now increase the level of automation, accelerate welding capacity and maintain its competitive edge in the global market.
The PEMA VRWP-C is a compact vision robot welding system that is controlled and programmed with PEMA WeldControl 200 CREATE software designed in-house by Pemamek. The system is equipped with one welding robot and is optimised to weld flat micro-panels with ‘stiffeners and tees’.
The PEMA VRWP-C is scheduled to be delivered to Gondan Shipyard in February next year and be up-and-running by March 2021.
