Porsche have achieved 3,036km of purely electric driving in a 24hr period. The charging power for the record drive was provided by the ChargeTrailer, which was developed and produced by
ADS-TEC Energy.
At the Lausitzring (a race track located near Klettwitz in northeast Germany), the 24hr endurance record was broken by a Porsche Taycan that can be charged very fast with 270kW thanks to 800V technology.
The ‘record chasers’ installed an improvised pit lane with a ‘mobile fast-charging station’ to enable the record run. The ChargeTrailer developed by ADS-TEC Energy is like a giant power bank on wheels; and with 320kW of power available the Taycan could be charged in minutes.
The ADS-TEC developers have optimised the system in terms of weight and size so that it can be used as a roadworthy 40-tonne truck that can support a variety of applications, including driving events of e-vehicles and trade fairs or other types of event. Since 2019, several trailers have been in operation.
With its 270kW charging available, the Taycan only took about 11min each time it needed to recharge; and breaking the record meant the Porsche was connected to the power cable for a total of 4hr 48min. Despite unfavourable external conditions (11degC and continuous rain), the charging trailer constantly delivered the required ultra-fast charging power for 24hr.
