Howden secures fan contract for Rozelle Tunnel in SydneyHowden — a global provider of air- and gas-handling products, technologies and services — has won a contract to supply ventilation fans for the WestConnex Rozelle Interchange tunnels in Sydney, Australia. The contract, for part of Australia’s largest road project, includes the supply of 29 fans to be used across five ventilation facilities in the new underground interchange.

The axial-flow fans, which include 450kW and 335kW motors, will provide airflow and control ventilation in the underground motorway tunnel. The efficiency of the fans to be provided by Howden will save running costs and reduce energy use and ‘CO2 emissions’ for the customer.

Ross Shuster, Howden’s CEO, said: “The contract to provide fans for the Rozelle Interchange is a great example of how Howden brings solutions that help our customers reduce the environmental impact of their operations, reduce carbon emissions and improve sustainability. It is through projects of this size and significance that we can make a real impact on global carbon emissions.”

This major contract for Howden Australia will be delivered by the local team in Cardiff, New South Wales, using its expertise to assemble and test equipment, working in collaboration with Howden specialist tunnel and metro sites in Australia, China and Spain.

Howden recently announced its target to be carbon ‘net zero’ by 2035 via: the purchase of renewable energy and carbon-free energy; efficiency gains from energy conservation measures; and by renewable energy projects at its manufacturing facilities.
