Improving operational performance with ‘lean thinking’

Improving operational performance with ‘lean thinking’London-based TXM Lean Solutions UK, which improves the operational performance of manufacturers in the metal-working industry, will be on hand at MACH 2022 (Hall 19, Stand 318) to discuss any individual challenges companies are facing. The event is taking place from 4-8 April at the NEC, Birmingham.

TXM has assisted almost 100 manufacturers around the world to apply ‘lean thinking’ and other improvement approaches to increase productivity, reduce waste, improve customer service, increase flexibility, and reorganise their factory layouts.

The company’s experience encompasses almost every aspect of fabricated metal manufacturing, including precision machining, repetition engineering, sheet metal fabrication, heavy steel fabrication, roll forming, pressing, casting and pipe bending.

TXM recently assisted Derby-based Truma, a leading international manufacturer of leisure products for caravans and motorhomes — including heaters, water systems, air-conditioning systems and associated products — to create a new production line to boost its manufacturing capability.

Over the course of seven months during a difficult 2021, a ‘lean and scalable’ production line was created; this increased output by 40%, required no additional staff, used 60% less space, improved product quality and reduced variations, while improving staff morale and engagement. Truma has also implemented Workplace 5S, a workplace organisation method that gives a greater ability to see work in progress while maintaining a cleaner production and storage area.

Tim McLean, TXM founder and managing director, said: “We are passionate about helping metal manufacturers succeed. Our focus is on removing the time-consuming operational problems that prevent companies from growing profitably. We are really looking forward to attending MACH 2022 and meeting more UK manufacturers to learn about their unique challenges.”
