The Finnish family-owned welding and production automation provider
Pemamek Ltd has announced investments of 15 million euros in factory expansion, product development, and the recruitment of a further 40 people by the end of 2022. The investment decision has been prompted by orders from the wind energy industry earlier this year, the growing demand for heavy-industry robot solutions, and the fact that the company has several ongoing negotiations for new projects.
Juha Mäkitalo, Pemamek’s CEO, said: “Factors such as green transition and energy self-sufficiency have significantly increased the interest towards wind energy. Also, the sizes of offshore wind tower structures are increasing, with some tower foundations over 15m in diameter.
“Currently, there is no manufacturing capacity for structures of this size, so tower and foundation manufacturers are required to invest in new, larger-scale production solutions. The new factory expansion increases Pemamek’s production capacity and abilities to meet the rising demand from the wind power industry, as well as shipbuilding.
Jaakko Heikonen, Pemamek’s vice chairman and director of global sales, added: “In addition to the shipbuilding and wind energy sectors, demand for heavy-industry robot solutions is growing. Finnish technology expertise is appreciated worldwide, and we are eager to further strengthen its role in the global heavy-fabrication industry.”
Pemamek’s previous factory expansion was finished in 2017 and gave the factory an overall area of 20,000m
2. The upcoming expansion will add a further 7,000m
2 of manufacturing, assembly, and office space; this will be ready for use during the last quarter of 2022. The company employs 260 personnel at its headquarters and factory in Finland and has local sales offices in the USA, Brazil, Spain, Germany, Denmark, and Poland.
