Savery Hydraulics, whose name has been associated with engineering since the industrial revolution, has announced the expansion of its Coventry headquarters. The company has acquired an additional 23,000ft2 unit on the Grovelands Industrial Estate and is refurbishing the former industrial warehouse to create a modern manufacturing facility that includes an upgraded power supply to enable the testing of large hydraulic systems.

Savery Hydraulic says that the space will provide a dedicated clean hydraulic assembly environment, with additional capacity to fulfil a growing demand for its high-specification hydraulic control manifold and systems.

As part of the expansion, Savery Hydraulics has also made a ‘significant investment’ in new stores facilities and a gantry crane for the assembly of large hydraulic systems, and improved test facilities to increase its capabilities and capacity.

Centre of excellence

The company is headquartered at an adjacent unit, where it has established a centre of excellence for manifold machining capability. It services a wide range of sectors including energy, logistics, defence, marine, aerospace agriculture and automotive.

The company’s managing director, Graham Wood said that it is planning further investment in both its new assembly and existing machining facilities, as part of a business growth strategy.

He said: “Our expansion into additional premises will allow us to capitalise on a growing number of opportunities within the hydraulics assembly side of our business. The most important thing in hydraulics is cleanliness, which is why the new dedicated clean environment and improved facilities will greatly enhance our capability to deliver several new contracts we have in the pipeline.

“It is part of a broader package of investment which has also seen us install a new 12-pallet machining centre for manifolds and a three-axis prototyping machine within our centre of excellence for manifolds.

“We have an outstanding team of highly experienced application engineers which means we can design, manufacture and install solutions for any kind of hydraulic applications, from multi-million-pound turnkey ring main systems, to micro DC power units. The new facilities and equipment gives us a strong platform from which to take our business forward.”

Savery Hydraulics is part of the historic T A Savery & Co, which designs and manufactures equipment for UK and international customers, and has operations in China, Germany and India. The company was established in Tipton in 1904 by the Savery brothers, who designed and manufactured marine steam engines and boilers for use in canal barges.

The Savery name has been associated with engineering since the birth of the industrial revolution when Captain Thomas Savery invented one of the very first steam engines, more than 70 years before James Watt.
