DK Engineering confirms partnership with McMurtry AutomotiveHertfordshire-based DK Engineering has entered a new commercial relationship with McMurtry Automotive that will see the former acting as the UK exclusive agent for McMurtry, a British engineering company that is working towards ‘creating the world’s greatest small electric cars for road and track use, raising the bar for electric vehicles, and both inventing and proving new technologies to offer cars with unrivalled performance in dynamics, speed and range’.

Cotswold-based McMurtry, which was formed in 2016 by Sir David McMurtry (the co-founder and executive chairman of the global technology and metrology company Renishaw plc and been hands-on in the vehicle development), shot to ‘international notoriety’ earlier last summer at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, when the Spéirling prototype proved the sheer performance of its electric fan technology. The team set a time of 39.08sec, comprehensively beating the previous official and unofficial records in the process.

With an extensive automotive engineering background and sales of some of the most exclusive vehicles throughout its 45-year history, DK is well-placed to support the activities of McMurtry Automotive and will work with the company as it looks to launch the Spéirling on the UK market.

Huge respect

James Cottingham from DK Engineering said: “At our core, DK is an engineering company, and it is amazing to see what McMurtry is achieving. I love what the team is doing, using electricity but taking a different approach rather than simply following the crowd. There is a huge respect for the work they have already carried out and the performance being achieved with the Spéirling using electricity and approaching that of Formula One performance around circuits.

“We feel it will be a great fit with our client base, and for those who have an electric-car itch to scratch but haven’t been intrigued or interested in anything offered previously. The team is taking the technology to the next level, and we are proud to be a part of this exciting journey with the future projects; and as the exclusive agent for the UK to support McMurtry as a revolutionary British business.

“Working with McMurtry Automotive also feels like a natural fit, given its success at Goodwood. DK has managed to achieve some success on the Hillclimb and at the circuit over the years, so we have a huge amount of respect for the work and effort that went into achieving such an outstanding result to break the record.”

Thomas Yates, McMurtry Automotive’s managing director, added: “Now we have proven that our downforce-on-demand technology works and have a world-beating track car, launching the Spéirling onto the market is the next logical step. We are looking forward to working with James and his team and know they can bring invaluable experience to the table.”
