The Fine-Barrel product line from
TaeguTec has been extended with two barrel-type inserts that are available in various sizes. The NFLB lens-type inserts and NFCB chamfer-type inserts both include a large-radius cutting edge that increases productivity by more than 40% compared to ball-type inserts as they can undertake wide-pitch machining.
The NFLB lens-type allows for machining in a variety of profile forms thanks to its combined bottom and side cutting edges. Furthermore, and depending on the cutting-edge choice made during CAM programming, the two cutting edges can be used independently.
Meanwhile, the inclined edge of the NFCB chamfer insert increases efficiency while also allowing for the short-overhang machining of inclined profiles. Additionally, the bottom radius edge can perform the same operations as a ball-type end mill.
TaeguTec says that Fine-Barrel inserts are compatible with the Fine-Ball product line’s TNF holders, allowing for a wide variety of shank choices, adding that to use barrel tools on five-axis machining centres, CAM software is required — such as hyperMill and CATIA NC.
