Over the last two years, Mills CNC
(www.millscnc.co.uk) has supplied three multi-axis Doosan MX 2100ST mill-turn machines to Birmingham-based Aero Engine Controls. Installed as part of an on-going project to improve part accuracies and reduce cycle times, these are being used to machine complex parts for fuel-metering systems in one hit.
Featuring 8in/10in quick-change chucks and a 65mm bar-working capacity, the MX 2100STs are equipped with two 22kW 5,000rev/min spindles, an integrated B axis, a Y axis and a lower turret. To meet AEC’s specific requirements, they also feature: thermal compensation for the B axis; linear scales on the X and Y axes of the top milling head and on the X axis of the bottom turret; an FSE ‘filter-drum conveyor system with built-in refrigeration’; a 70-bar coolant pressure upgrade for the B-axis milling spindle; a Renishaw RMP600 inspection probe; and a Renishaw NC4 tool breakage detector.
