Spain-based
CMZ Machinery Group SA, a leading European manufacturer of precision CNC lathes, has acquired a plot of land in Berriz, in Northern Spain, to build a new assembly plant to manufacture a new lathe model which the company intends to bring to the market. The company‘s technical team is already working flat out on the machine’s design. This new factory investment will join those made by the manufacturer in recent years as it ramps up capacity to ultimately produce 1,000 new machines each year — the medium-term objective is to consolidate production of 800 lathes a year.
The facility will be built on a 22,000m
2 plot of land previously occupied by the Mendiguren and Zarraua stamping and pressing plant. The aim is for the new facility to become CMZ’s new hub and to this end will be equipped with ‘state of the art’ technologies and equipment. This latest plant will mean that CMZ will be producing lathes at eight different plants. The manufacturing process has been designed by the company so that over 80% of the components for the machines are made in its own manufacturing ecosystem. By producing these parts in-house, CMZ eliminates import and export costs and ensures the use of top quality components.
The new plant in Berriz will join CMZ’s Zaldibar plant in Biscay and Seuner in Mallabia in the building of lathes. Meanwhile, CMZ’s Meydi facility, which is focused on electrical assembly, has recently completed a thorough renovation of its facilities. The ramp up in production capacity will be possible also thanks to increased activity at the Group’s three machining plants — Mecaninor, Precitor and Neoprec.
This year the company is concentrating its efforts to expand on the international stage. CMZ is seeking to consolidate its presence in Turkey and the USA with the support of its commercial networks which have underpinned strong recent sales of CMZ lathes in those countries. CMZ France, the oldest subsidiary, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
